Statistically, stroke is the 4th leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Risk of Distal Embolization in Acute Large Arterial Occlusion Prior to Endovascular Stroke Treatment in Neurological Institute of Thailand

At present, the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (IV tPA) and mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is classified in the treatment guidelines for AIS. However, it was found that the administration of IV tPA has the potential to cause blood clot to move to the distal vessel.
